Community Impact International
Community Impact International has been assisting Afghan women by purchasing handicrafts made in their homes, then selling them in the USA. The wages they earn allow them to support their families and continue creating new sewing and handicraft designs to sell.
Auntie Sandra is the team leader of a small group of women entrepreneurs who are often referred to as “sewing ladies”. She is the breadwinner for a family of seven, which includes her husband, daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Her husband is old and unable to work, and her son is also unemployed. In addition to her sewing, Auntie Sandra works with a Non-Profit Organization to support her family.
Alison lives in a rental house with her three sisters and one brother. She is 32 years old and has not been able to marry, as her parents died, and her oldest brother was killed by a suicide attack. Alison’s brother is a tailor and helps with sewing clothes and creating handicraft items; however, income is limited due to difficulties selling their craft items in Afghanistan. Alison is responsible for supporting and caring for her sisters and brother and continues to struggle to find a way to make ends meet from their sales in a limited Afghanistan marketplace.
This is a small sample of the challenges many Afghans face every day and work hard to overcome.
